Meet the Staff

Jenny Smith

Superintendent, Program Services

 Jenny has had the privilege of working in the RCDSB for the past 20 years with experience as a teacher and Administrator in our Secondary and Elementary Schools.  She continued on her path in Leadership to the central position of  Principal of Student Success and Program Services and has completed a Specialist in Special Education and Special Education for Administrators qualifications.   Her commitment to creating conditions for all students to thrive in inclusive teaching and learning environments is instrumental in her role as Superintendent of Education. 

Alicia Hilts 

Administrative Assistant, Superintendent 

Alicia Hilts started her career with the RCDSB in 2016 working as a school secretary in both Elementary and Secondary schools. In her current role as 

Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Program Services she provides administrative support for the department Principals, Consultants and Coaches.

Angela McGregor-Stewart

Principal of Special Services 

Angela has been an employee of RCDSB for the past 25 years.  She has taught in both the elementary and secondary panels, and has worked as a high school Vice-Principal and Principal. Angela has had previous opportunities to be part of the Special Services Department as a Special Education Consultant, Vice Principal of Special Services and now welcomes the opportunity to return to be a part of this exceptional team as the Supervising Principal of Special Services. 

Shelley Smith 

Interim Vice Principal of Special Services

Shelley Smith joined the RCDSB in 1998, joining the staff of Eganville & District Public School in 2000. During her time at EDPS, she taught a variety of primary, junior and intermediate grades as well as working as a special education resource teacher (SERT).  As an elementary special education consultant, Shelley worked in the department for 5 years, working with school special education teams and the families they support. She is excited to continue to support our schools in her capacity as Vice Principal.

Alanda White 

Administrative Assistant, Special Services 

Alanda started with the Renfrew County District School Board in 2014 working as an office assistant at Valour JK-12 School and has also supported the Continuing Education department. Alanda now brings her expertise to  the Special Education Department to support RCDSB parents and staff. 

Janice Bujold

Administrative Assistant, Special Services 

Janice started her position with RCDSB in 2020 working as an administrative assistant with Central Public School and Renfrew Collegiate Institute.  Prior to employment with RCDSB, Janice served for many years as an administrator in the healthcare sector.  Jan now provides support to the exceptional staff of the Special Education Department. 

Jennifer Francis

Special Education Consultant, Elementary  

Jen Francis has had a long and diverse career in education with the Renfrew County District School Board. In her 20 years of teaching in Pembroke and Petawawa, her time was spent as a classroom teacher, day treatment teacher, SERT and small class teacher. During this time Jen collaborated with educators, parents, and students to ensure that students with special needs received the support and resources to thrive academically and socially.  Jen is now the Interim Special Education Consultant for Petawawa, Deep River, Arnprior and Champlain Discovery and Rockwood Public School. 

Lisa Rigby 

Special Education Consultant, Elementary  

Lisa Rigby joined the RCDSB in 1998. As an elementary special education consultant, Lisa works with school special education teams and the families they support in the Renfrew, Opeongo, and Madawaska families of schools as well as Beachburg PS and Highview PS in Pembroke. 

Cindy Brash

Special Education Consultant, Secondary 

Cindy Brash joined RCDSB in 2004 as a classroom teacher at Opeongo High School.  After 3 years in the classroom, she joined the OHS Special Education department as a Special Education Resource Teacher and later, Department Lead, while teaching a variety of other courses from grades 9-12.  Cindy is now the Special Education Consultant for the secondary schools within RCDSB, working to support families and special education teams. 

Melanie Wagner

Special Education Assistive Technology Consultant

Melanie has been teaching in the Pembroke family of schools for over 25 years. Throughout her teaching career she has been using UDL and DI while incorporating technology as a DART, a small class teacher, a classroom teacher, a SERT and was recently in the Assistive Technology Coaching role to support educational staff and learners with the use and application of technology tools. Melanie has accepted the interim role of Assistive Technology Consultant and will continue to support the use of UDL Technology with all educational staff and all learners K-12 throughout Renfrew County District School Board. 

Sara Ward

Transition Support Facilitator

Sara Ward joined RCDSB in 2008 and has taught in the secondary schools in Barry’s Bay, Pembroke, and Petawawa.  Most recently, Sara served as the SERT at Madawaska District High School, and taught a wide variety of courses for grades 9-12 including mathematics, science, and life skills in small class settings over the years at her various schools. She has always been especially devoted to creating authentic, student centered accessible learning experiences for all high school students. Special education has been her passion and Sara has often focused her energy towards creating student opportunity that focused on such things as inclusive school programming, developing workplace skills, and post-secondary transitions.  Sara is now the Transitional Support Facilitator aiming to aid students, parents, and school teams to prepare every RCDSB student for life after high school.
